1. what happens if you put metal in the microwave and why?
2. How bad is it to stand directly in front of a microwave?

A common house hold microwave has a frequency of 2.4ghz. It is very high frequency energy and will travel through the metal to create a short circuit that can destroy the microwave. There are even record of microwaves exploding, but I think that’s cause someone put an unopened can inside it.
Try this to understand a little more. Find a small mouthed glass or jar, fill it with water, stick a light bulb base first into the water and let the globe rest on the rim of the glass. The glass will insulate the experiment from grounding out, and the water will conduct the energy. Watch the bulb light up!
