Microwave Glass Plate Turntable!
Is It A Good Idea To Microwave Silly Putty?
Microwave Glass Plate Turntable Questions
Why did my glass turntable in my microwave crack during use?
I was making popcorn. I have had a few microwave safe plates pop in half while warming leftovers. It never took more than a few minutes for this to happen. Popcorn is always done in less than three minutes and I always reheat slowly so as not to petrify things. I do mostly use the high setting though.
I would diagnose this as a concentrated heat fracture.
Ah, the perils of popcorn.
Check the ingredients it has oil right?
Unlike water, which turns into steam when it heats, cooking oil just gets hot. In fact you have to get to about 450 degrees for soybean oil to even smoke.
So, you put your bag o’ corn on the turntable and you get a bit of bad luck because the oil concentrates in one spot, heats up, and causes your turntable to crack.
Why does it crack the whole turntable you ask? Well, the turntable is shatterproof to protect you in the case of dropping it on the floor. So, instead of shattering, it splits to disburse the energy. Heat, energy, disbursement, crack.
